General Information

Volunteers - our foundation

Without volunteers, there would be no Mensa. Volunteers keep IEM running. Volunteering in IEM can be anything from hosting a single event or starting a Special Interest Group "SIG", to serving our membership by volunteering for a position on our governing committee.

Consider running for a position on the Executive Board. There are no prequalifications for candidacy other than a willingness to help IEM grow and a desire to be actively involved in a terrific group. You will have lots of help if elected, and handbooks for each office are available from the National Office.

There are non-voting appointed officer positions available as well. Volunteers can serve on the Scholarship Committee or the Regional Gathering Committee; many positions require only a few hours per month. You can serve for a few weeks, a few months, or take a more in-depth role in guiding our group. Volunteers will find some dedicated and fun people serving IEM. Please consider joining us.

IEM Governance and Elections

Elections are held in the spring of even numbered years. Nominations are sent to the Nominating Committee prior to voting. Any member wishing to run for office may do so, provided they are a current (dues paid) member in good standing. Any member wishing to nominate someone to run for office may do so, provided the nominating party secures, in writing, an agreement to run and to serve from their nominee of choice. The next election is in 2010. Any current IEM member may run for office.

There are five voting members on IEM’s Executive Board. Each position is elected to a two year term:
